If you would like to install a heat pump heating system in your home there are some basic considerations to help you find out if they are suitable for your property.
Is there sufficient land or water for ground loops? Or enough space to attach an air source heat pump to your home, allowing room for a good flow of air and insulation to protect them from the elements.
Does your home have good insulation and glazing? Heat pumps installed in a house with poor insulation and normal radiators are less efficient and potentially cost more money to run. They also require additional mains back up power with an immersion heater.
Heat pumps are best suited to underfloor heating or warm air system. However, you can run heat pumps with radiators if they are large radiators or fan assisted. This allows them to make better use of the lower temperature heat offered by heat pumps. In some instances we would also recommend adding additional radiators to assist in heating colder rooms.
In some instances newer heating systems may be more efficient than using a heat pump system. However, replacing electric, coal, oil or LPG heating systems will see a heat pump system pay for itself far more quickly. In cases where heat pumps are unsuitable, or unlikely to provide substantial cost savings, we are able to provide advice on alternative renewable energy products for your home.
