If you are a large domestic property, have a swimming pool or a commercial property you may need to consider a larger scale solar thermal hot water system.

The principals are the same as with smaller scale solar hot water systems with a few more components and heavier duty elements, but the good news is scale = economies of scale and much faster return on your investment.

Large scale solar thermal systems are becoming more popular as they have extremely low running costs.

How do larger scale hot water systems work

The essence to designing these systems is in working out the heat load, once we have this information we can allocate the number of panels and water storage required.

Many large scale solar hot water systems can be as simple as a larger tank and more panels being required. For some such as apartment blocks, properties with large accommodation needs there may be the additional need for pre-heat tanks and heat exchangers to increase the efficiency and distribution of heat.

Our site surveys

Most large scale solar heating systems will require a site survey.  Our surveys are a technical site visit designed to understand your needs and give you an accurate quote.

  • We measure your pipework, roof space, hot water cylinder and loft space.
  • Check the orientation of your roof and suitability for solar panel installation.
  • Explain how the system could work in your home and a guideline cost.
  • It can take as little as 45 minutes depending on how many questions you have.
  • After the solar thermal survey we will send you a quote for supply and installation.

Your next steps

We will usually require some detail on the heat load or plans of the property and will need to survey the property.
